Science Day at IISER – Kirandeep Kaur

It was on the 28th of February 1928, that Sir C.V. Raman announced the discovery of the Raman Effect. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for the same in 1930. Since then 28th of February is commemorated as the Indian National Science Day.
In this respect, the students of IISER Mohali, in collaboration with members of faculty celebrated their first Science Day by organizing a quiz competition for school children. The purpose was to introduce the young minds to the intriguing world of     Science. The students were asked questions which spanned all the four disciplines of science- physics, chemistry, maths, and biology. Some teams struggled with the posers, while others swayed through. Towards the end, the team from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Chandigarh was awarded the first prize. The students were taken on a tour of the institute and introduced to the various facilities and instruments available. Science Day, 2009, was a memorable experience for both the visitors and the IISER family. Sir C.V. Raman strongly believed that the passion for science infects at a young age. IISER Mohali takes pride in perpetuating his principles to the young minds on this day.
