One fine morning a group of students came to me saying that they intended to bring out a ‘Student magazine’ comprising of general articles, poems, short stories etc. I was so thrilled with their resolve that I immediately responded, “please go ahead; sooner the better and let it be a student’s magazine in the true sense – a magazine by the students, for the students (of course, including the ‘senior students’ i.e. the faculty) and published by the students.’
I, on behalf of the students, faculty and staff, wish to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to all the members of the organizing group who worked hard to turn their dream into reality. This is certainly an important happening in the infancy of IISER Mohali, as the future course is, by and large
always determined by the initial steps taken.
I would also like to use this opportunity to appeal to the students to seriously ponder over the idea of another magazine that is exclusively devoted to academics – a sort of Science Magazine. It should provide a platform for the student community of the Institute to pen down and share their innovative ideas and contribute to the growth of science. This will be another milestone towards achieving the real and meaningful purpose of IISER, which is an integrated approach to education and research that will ultimately create a science Institute of international standards. Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the publication of ‘Manthan’.
