City Road – Dr. Ramandeep Johal

And it is here, right in the middle
of the road: the speeding motors
pick up soil and it goes to stick on
the railings and the hedge. People
stand in the gaps, waiting to cross;

somehow balancing themselves

shaken by the counter-currents.

The leaves too are tossed around.
As soon as there is a moment’s let-up
the trees continue with their game of
cards on the road, another car comes
and throws all up. They leave the game
start running on the footpaths, like dogs.
Who flaunts power by turning the wheel
too, is desperate to catch the breath..
